What this scam is
Scammers impersonate Amazon with fake order confirmations, refund offers, or account warnings. They try to get you to call a fake support line or log in on a fake page, then talk you into payments, gift cards, or remote access.
What it usually looks like
- A message about an expensive order you did not place.
- A call or email offering a refund that requires your bank details.
- A warning that your Prime membership or account is on hold.
Common warning signs
- You are told to call a number to cancel an order.
- A 'refund' requires giving remote access or account access.
- The link does not go to amazon.com.
Example wording scammers use
“Your Amazon order of $1,299 has shipped. To cancel, call 1-800-000-0000.”
“We owe you a refund. Log in to your bank so we can send it.”
