Card Declined / Reactivation Text
A text says your card was declined or deactivated and links to a page to 'reactivate' it, capturing your full card and login details.
Think a message like this reached you? You can check it right now.
What this scam is
You get a text claiming your card was declined, locked, or deactivated and that you must reactivate it through a link. The page mimics your bank and asks for your card number, PIN, and online-banking login. Everything you enter is stolen and used to drain the account. Banks do not text links asking you to re-enter your full card and PIN.
What it usually looks like
- A 'your card was declined/deactivated' text.
- A reactivation link to a bank-looking page.
- Requests for full card number, PIN, and login.
- Urgency to act to avoid losing access.
Common warning signs
- Banks do not ask for your full PIN or password by link.
- The web address is not your bank's real site.
- Pressure to reactivate immediately.
- The message arrives for a card that is working fine.
Example wording scammers use
“Your debit card has been deactivated due to suspicious activity. Reactivate here: secure-card-reactivate.net”
“ALERT: Card declined. Verify your card and PIN to restore access.”
