What this scam is
You receive an appeal that appears to come from a church, ministry, or missionary, asking for donations toward a building fund, a mission trip, or an urgent need. The message spoofs a real congregation or invents one, and directs payment to a personal account, gift cards, or wire. The funds go to the scammer, not any ministry. Real church appeals come through known channels and give you a verifiable way to give.
